Systems Administrator / Desktop Support – Contract to Hire Location: Menlo Park, CA Schedule: Onsite 4 days per week Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire About the Role We are seeking a hands-on Systems Administrator / Desktop Support professional to join a...
Job description
This is a true “no task too small” environment. The right person will be just as comfortable troubleshooting a laptop, setting up a new employee, resolving an Outlook or Microsoft 365 issue, or helping someone with a conference room as they are administering Active Directory, managing endpoints, supporting CrowdStrike, or assisting with infrastructure and security initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the users and wants broad exposure across desktop support, systems administration, security, and infrastructure. A strong customer-service mindset is critical. We are looking for someone approachable, responsive, and willing to jump in wherever needed rather than someone who only wants to focus on higher-level engineering work.
Key Responsibilities
Provide hands-on desktop and end-user support, troubleshooting hardware, software, Microsoft 365, connectivity, printing, and other day-to-day technology issues.
Serve as a highly visible IT resource for employees, providing responsive and professional support both in person and remotely.
Set up laptops, workstations, mobile devices, monitors, peripherals, and other equipment for new and existing employees.
Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including account creation, access provisioning, equipment setup, permissions, and device deployment.
Administer and support Microsoft 365, including Outlook/Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
Manage users, groups, permissions, and access within Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
Support identity and access management, including MFA, SSO, and user provisioning.
Manage Windows endpoints and device policies using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
Administer and support CrowdStrike Falcon, including endpoint deployment, policy management, monitoring, and basic incident response.
Assist with SOX-related IT controls, documentation, access reviews, change management, and audit requests.
Troubleshoot basic networking issues involving Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and general connectivity.
Support conference rooms, collaboration technology, and other office IT equipment.
Assist with patching, software deployments, upgrades, backups, and routine systems maintenance.
Help maintain accurate IT asset inventory, documentation, SOPs, and user support procedures.
Use PowerShell or other scripting tools to automate repetitive administrative tasks where appropriate.
Partner with other members of IT on infrastructure, security, cloud, and technology improvement initiatives.
Assist with additional IT needs as they arise, regardless of size or complexity.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of experience in desktop support, systems administration, IT support, or a similar hands-on corporate IT role.
Strong experience supporting users in a Windows and Microsoft 365 environment.
Hands-on experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Entra ID.
Experience with user provisioning, permissions, group management, and employee onboarding/offboarding.
Experience supporting and managing corporate endpoints.
Familiarity with CrowdStrike Falcon or a comparable endpoint security/EDR platform.
Understanding of SOX controls or working within an audited corporate environment.
Strong troubleshooting skills across laptops, desktops, applications, Microsoft 365, networking, and general end-user technology.
Comfortable working directly with employees at all levels of an organization.
Strong communication skills and a genuine customer-service mentality.
Willingness to handle both basic support requests and more technical systems work.
Ability to work independently and prioritize requests within a small IT team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
Experience with Okta, SSO, and MFA.
Working knowledge of PowerShell.
Exposure to Azure, VMware, Windows Server, or other infrastructure technologies.
Familiarity with Fortinet firewalls, VPNs, and general networking.
Experience supporting backup and recovery platforms such as Veeam or Druva.
Experience within financial services, private equity, venture capital, or another regulated environment.
Basic macOS administration experience.
Exposure to enterprise AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Gemini, or Claude is a plus.
