Job description
Position Overview: Serving as the Senior End-User Computing Engineer, you provide hands-on technical leadership and engineering expertise for the enterprise digital workspace ecosystem. In this role, you drive modern workplace engineering across the full hardware and virtualization spectrum—architecting and managing cloud-hosted Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments as well as physical thick client workstations and dedicated thin/zero client endpoints.
You lead the development of automated Standard Operating Environments (SOE), master OS imaging pipelines, zero-touch provisioning workflows, and enterprise application packaging (MSIX/Win32) for hybrid delivery. Leveraging modern management platforms including Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and MECM, you author robust automation code (PowerShell) to eliminate administrative toil, enforce Zero Trust device hardening at the edge, and optimize digital experience telemetry to guarantee a secure, high-performance computing environment across all client endpoints.
Salary: $127,624 to $187,093 per year (inclusive of TLMS and locality adjustments)
Location: Fort Meade, MD; Arlington, VA; Scott AFB, IL; San Antonio, TX
Major Duties:
Engineer Hybrid Workspaces (AVD & Virtual Sessions): Build, configure, and optimize enterprise Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments and virtual application delivery, ensuring seamless, low-latency desktop experiences across both thin and thick client access points.Manage Physical Device Fleets (Thick & Thin Clients): Engineer, evaluate, and maintain the organization’s hardware fleet—including high-performance thick clients (workstations, laptops) and dedicated thin/zero clients—standardizing hardware baselines, BIOS/firmware configurations, and peripheral compatibility.Master OS Imaging & SOE Engineering: Build, automate, and maintain Standard Operating Environments (SOE) using automated image pipelines (OSD/MECM) and cloud imaging solutions across physical thick clients, thin client operating systems, and virtual desktop master images.Modernize Unified Endpoint Management (UEM): Implement modern device management workflows using Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and MECM for zero-touch provisioning, compliance baselines, and configuration policy management across all physical and virtual endpoints.Drive Application Packaging & Hybrid Delivery: Package, test, and distribute enterprise software (MSIX, Win32, App-V), determining the optimal delivery method (native installation for thick clients vs. remote application streaming for thin/AVD environments).Enforce Endpoint Security & Zero Trust: Partner with cyber engineering teams to harden thick, thin, and virtual endpoints, deploying conditional access policies, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and Zero Trust access controls at the hardware and OS level.Automate Endpoint Operations & Telemetry: Author robust PowerShell automation scripts and configuration policies to streamline patching, provisioning, and driver updates; monitor digital experience telemetry to optimize boot times, peripheral performance, and session quality across all device types.
