Job description
The ideal candidate combines deep Splunk expertise with strong infrastructure engineering capabilities and a passion for automation, operational excellence, and mentoring other engineers. This role offers the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide standards, drive strategic initiatives, and serve as a trusted advisor on logging, monitoring, and observability technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Splunk & Observability Engineering
Design, implement, and support enterprise-scale Splunk environments, including administration, onboarding, performance tuning, and platform optimization.Develop scalable logging and monitoring solutions that support business-critical applications and infrastructure.Lead initiatives to improve system reliability, observability, and operational efficiency.Establish best practices and standards for log ingestion, retention, analytics, and platform management.Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance monitoring and operational capabilities.Drive infrastructure modernization efforts across cloud and on-premises environments.
Technical Leadership
Serve as the senior technical authority for Splunk and log management platforms.Lead complex projects involving multiple infrastructure and engineering teams.Provide escalation support for critical incidents and complex troubleshooting efforts.Identify trends, root causes, and hidden performance issues using data analysis and observability platforms.Guide infrastructure lifecycle decisions, including upgrades, migrations, and technology refreshes.Promote automation and operational excellence through modern engineering practices.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the organization.Support hiring efforts through technical interviews and candidate evaluations.Foster collaboration among infrastructure, cloud, security, and application teams.Help drive consensus on technical decisions and architectural direction.Ensure adherence to engineering standards, operational procedures, and governance requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.5+ years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure, observability, or platform engineering environments.Deep expertise with Splunk Enterprise, Splunk Cloud, and/or Cribl technologies.Strong experience administering large-scale monitoring, logging, and analytics platforms.Advanced knowledge of AWS, Linux administration, networking, identity management, and access controls.Hands-on experience with automation technologies such as Ansible and AWX.Experience working in Agile environments utilizing tools such as JIRA and Confluence.Strong understanding of infrastructure testing, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.Proven ability to solve complex technical challenges and lead large-scale engineering initiatives.Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within asset management, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and operational excellence frameworks.Splunk certifications or other observability-related certifications.Experience supporting enterprise cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
