The Endpoint Management team within ITS is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and modern endpoint management solutions that support the University’s academic, research, healthcare, and administrative missions. This team partners across schools, units, and distributed IT organizations to provide enterprise endpoint services that strengthen cybersecurity, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the end-user experience.
Position SummaryThe Assistant Director of Endpoint Management is a leadership role responsible for defining, advancing, and driving adoption of endpoint management services across the University. This position serves as the service owner for enterprise endpoint management, with end-to-end accountability for strategy, delivery, adoption, and outcomes to ensure devices across Grounds are securely managed within centrally supported platforms.
This role leads two key functions:
The Enterprise Endpoint Platform Team, responsible for the design, engineering, and innovation of Microsoft and Apple endpoint management platformsA team of Systems Administrators, responsible for delivering and operating endpoint management services in partnership with distributed IT organizationsA central focus of this role is institution-wide outreach and stakeholder engagement—partnering with schools, units, and IT leaders to drive adoption of managed endpoint services as a critical component of the University’s device security strategy. This role also leads the Endpoint Management Advisory Committee and associated governance processes to ensure transparency, shared decision-making, and alignment between central IT and distributed stakeholders.
ResponsibilitiesService Ownership & StrategyDefine and own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for endpoint management services across the UniversityMaintain end-to-end accountability for service performance, adoption, and institutional value deliveryEstablish endpoint management as a foundational component of the University’s cybersecurity postureSet service direction, standards, and priorities aligned with institutional goals and stakeholder needsServe as the institutional authority within central IT for endpoint management standards, practices, and capabilitiesStakeholder Engagement & AdoptionLead proactive outreach to academic, research, and administrative units to build partnerships and drive service adoptionEngage regularly with IT leaders and stakeholders across Grounds to understand needs and remove barriers to adoptionTranslate institutional and departmental needs into service enhancements and platform capabilitiesLead change management strategies to increase adoption of managed endpoint services in decentralized environmentsLead the Endpoint Management Advisory Committee and governance processesDrive institution-wide alignment toward managed endpoint platforms to reduce unmanaged device risk and improve security posturePlatform & Service Delivery OversightEnsure reliable and scalable endpoint service delivery, including device provisioning, enrollment, configuration management, software deployment, patching, compliance, and lifecycle managementPartner with platform engineering teams to ensure services are modern, secure, and aligned with industry best practicesEstablish and monitor KPIs, SLAs/SLOs, and user experience metrics to drive service quality and continuous improvementEnsure endpoint services are well-documented, accessible, and effectively supported for end users and IT professionalsOrganizational LeadershipProvide leadership and direction to the Enterprise Endpoint Platform Team and Endpoint Systems Administration TeamEstablish accountability, priorities, and alignment between engineering and operational service delivery functionsFoster a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer-focused service deliveryPromote automation, standardization, and effective tooling to improve operational scalabilitySecurity & Compliance LeadershipEnsure endpoint management services align with institutional cybersecurity policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management practicesPartner with security teams to implement and enforce endpoint security controls and standardsDrive initiatives that improve device visibility, compliance, and institutional risk reductionPosition endpoint management as a critical control point in the University’s overall security strategyMinimum QualificationsEducation:
High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
Experience:
Significant experience supporting endpoint management platforms and enterprise desktop environmentsDemonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and business relationship managementExperience leading technical teams, initiatives, or enterprise IT servicesSkills and Competencies:
Strong knowledge of endpoint management tools such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Intune, Jamf, SCCM, or similar platformsStrong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skillsFamiliarity with ITIL service management practicesAbility to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and decentralized organizationsPreferred QualificationsEducation & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related fieldITIL, Jamf, Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator, or related certificationsExperience:
Experience working in higher education or other complex decentralized environmentsExperience supporting instructional, research, or enterprise computing environmentsExperience developing and executing strategic technology roadmaps and adoption initiativesSkills and Competencies:
Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision into executionStrong leadership, organizational, and change management capabilitiesAbility to influence and drive adoption across multiple stakeholder groupsPhysical DemandsThis position primarily involves sedentary work using standard office equipment and technology. Occasional lifting of equipment up to 25 pounds may be required.
Salary RangeCommensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work LocationFull-time, Exempt position. Hybrid work arrangements may be available in accordance with University policy. Position based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
